Racism is prejudice or discrimination based on the idea that certain races possess superior mental and/or physical capacities. Racists believe in their own racial superiority, even though there is no scientific proof that any single race is superior to any other race. In fact, most modern anthropologists reject the idea that humans can be divided into distinct racial categories. Throughout history, racism has been used to justify the oppression, enslavement, and sometimes even the attempted extermination of one group by another.
